Heat treatment of high value components

For some high-value components, critical manufaturing processes are carried out at high temperature, where a precise control of the process is required.

One of the items that the project team has chosen to look at is thermocouples which are the most widely used temperature sensors in the industry sector, and at the same time, thermocouples are prone to lose accuracy over time when used in harsh environments like furnaces. This loss of accuracy can degrade product quality and cause inefficiency, however, replacing them is expensive and time consuming.

The project team’s research aims to improve temperature control in industrial furnaces by making better use of the thermocouples already installed. Specifically, the project team will study furnaces used to heat treat high value items like aerospace components.
